When is the market on?

Mindil Beach Sunset Market traditionally always operates from the last Thursday in April until the last Thursday in October annually.

We are very excited to confirm that our Market will be returning on Thursday the 29th of April.

From that date on our Market will be operating from 4pm to 9pm EVERY THURSDAY and SUNDAY, with Our Closing Night for the 2021 season being held on Thursday the 28th of Thursday.

Can I bring my dog or pet to the market?

Due City of Darwin regulations animals are not permitted in the market with the exception of service dogs.

Can I buy alcohol at the markets?

Mindil Market is a BYO (bring your own) venue. No alcohol is sold on site but we encourage people to bring their own with them to enjoy whilst watching perhaps the best sunset in the world and enjoying an exciting and diverse range of food offerings. Alcohol is also served in our event area when booked in advance.

Are there cash or ATM facilities on site?

ATMs are located in the Hangout and Community Space. The majority of retail & craft stalls take EFTPOS, all food stalls are cash only.

Can I smoke at the markets?

Mindil is a no smoking market. Smoking is permitted in the main car park on the edges of the market next to the toilet blocks and on the public beach.

Does the market open if it is raining?

Mindil will operate unless deemed an unsafe site by the Management Committee and Operational Team. Updates will be posted on our Facebook page.

Are the Thursday and the Sunday Markets the same?

Thursday is our main market with all stalls trading. Sunday is a smaller market often referred to the locals night.

Are there facilities for people with different abilities?

Disabled parking is available and whilst access around the market is no problem, there is no direct wheelchair access to the beach. There are disabled toilets in each toilet block (located in the Territory & Community Space).

How do I get to the market?

Mindil Markets is located less than 3km from Darwin City Centre. Nestled between the Sky City Casino and Botanic Gardens its an easy walk or hop on bus 4 or 6. Taxis from the city cost about $10 and free parking is available via Gilruth Avenue.

How many stalls are there?

Mindil has 200+ stalls with approximately 60 food stalls representing cuisines from all over the world. Other stalls include handmade clothing, jewellery, homewares, indigenous product and information stalls.

Is there parking available at the market?

Yes we provide parking within the market area. Additionally, parking is located at the Darwin High School and along the surrounding streets.

What do I do if I require first aid?

St Johns Ambulance is available in the Community Space next to the Information Booth.

What do I do if I wish to share my experience of the Market?

Mindil Markets welcomes all feedback from patrons and works hard to continually improve all facets of the Market’s operation. Your feedback is appreciated.

What if I lose or find something?

We have a lost and found register at the Information Booth. For information on lost and found items outside market hours please call 08 8981 3454. We also suggest you contact City of Darwin on 08 8930 0300.

What kind of entertainment is there for kids?

The markets have a variety of things to keep the kids amused including lots of wide open spaces for them to run amuck. Laughing clowns, jumping castles, face painting, circus workshops as well as children's entertainment. And there's always the beach.

What kind of food is sold at the markets?

There are delicacies from a variety of countries, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, Indian, Greek, Italian, Mexican, French, Portuguese, and NT Outback just to name a few. Please see the Information Booth if you have any particular dietary needs. We have Halal & vegetarian stalls & many dishes can be made gluten free.

What other markets can I visit?

A number of local markets operate from Thursday through to Sunday at various locations throughout the suburbs. More information can be found at City of Darwin's Council website.

What time is the sunset?

Sunset during the dry season is approximately 6.30pm but varies throughout the 6 month period.
